1983-2007: Partner/EVP

Benderson Development Co. LLC

During a 23 year career with Benderson Development Rex Burgher was keenly involved in all aspects of Real Estate Development. Upon initiating the company’s marketing and market research department in the early 80’s Rex began leasing in the company’s Outlet Division in 1983. He subsequently became President of the Division in 1991 having assisted in building the Outlet portfolio to over 1.5 million square feet of space. In addition to completing deals with industry leaders Saks Fifth Ave., Polo/Ralph Lauren, Christian Dior, Coach, Calvin Klein, Estee Lauder, Nautica, Brooks Brothers, Tommy Hilfiger, Liz Claibourne, Guess, Donna Karan among many… Rex completed one of the initial Burberry Outlet store deals in the US in Niagara Falls, NY. In 1997 Rex initiated and assisted in completing the sale of Benderson’s entire Outlet Portfolio to Prime Retail.
Rex became a partner with Benderson in 1996 assisting in overseeing the company’s GLA retail expansion from 20 million feet to over 40 millions feet by 2003. Rex assisted in site selection, site acquisition and anchor leasing. During his tenure with Benderson, Rex completed over 11.5 million square feet of various anchor lease deals including multiple deals with Target, Wal-Mart, Lowe's, Home Depot, Sam's Club, BJ's Wholesale Club, Dick's Sporting Goods, Best Buy, Barnes and Noble among many others (a full list can be found at the bottom of the page).

1973-1980: Retail Management - JC Penney Company

During a 7 year career with JC Penney which included the completion of Penney’s industry leading management training program, Rex handled all aspects of Penney’s retail business including buying, store operations, inventory control, merchandising, store presentation, advertising and marketing. Store level positions included Department Manager, Merchandise Manager, Senior Merchandise Manager, Operations Manager in addition to a District Manager position of Sales and Promotion Manager.
